    Norton AntiVirus for Mac

    Norton AntiVirus for Mac

Mac users have traditionally laughed at Windows users and their vulnerability to malware, but more malware is being written to attack Macs as they become increasingly popular.

Norton AntiVirus for Mac offers protection from viruses, worms, Trojans and rootkits, as well as scanning any downloads, emails or attachments.

Antivirus for Mac receives constant updates so you can be sure that your software will always be up to date against the latest threats.

It has a tiny footprint on your system, so you should barely notice that it’s operating. The initial installation and first scan does take time, but with intelligent scanning it will only scan at-risk parts of your system in future, making it respectably quick.

The program also scans for Windows’ viruses so you don’t cross infect Windows machines.

Norton’s traditional easy to use interface makes it a doddle to adjust default settings to suit, and gives clear information about threats. Those of you looking for a comprehensive security platform for your Mac will find that this is amongst some of the best tailored software out there.

    Norton Antivirus 2011

    Norton Antivirus 2011

Antivirus 2010, from Norton, is a great progression on last year’s version. It works much faster than it did before and now offers an even greater level of protection. Norton Insight Network, one of the best things about Norton Antivirus 2011, allows the software to function with much less scan time. The overall experience with Antivirus 2011 is much cleaner, faster and less obtrusive than some other antivirus software programs. This is simply because Antivirus 2011 has developed a new way of identifying trusted files, that don’t need scanning, and now has the capacity to undertake faster scans in general. If the worst happens and your PC refuses to boot you can use the Bootable recovery Tool to remove the virus. Simply insert a pre-downloaded disk into the machine and it will fix the problem. Instructions come with the software. This software will protect your PC from viruses, spyware, Trojans, worms, bots and rootkits. Pulse Updates ensure that it updates every 5 – 15 minutes so that you always have the very latest protection in place. Through SONAR 2 Symantec Online Network for Advanced Response the software will discover archetypal malware activities and prevent it. Norton Anti-Virus 2011 is a truly excellent edition of the traditional Symantec collection. It is faster and more powerful with added protection. It can be a slightly basic, it doesn’t have a firewall for example, but for the price this is great value security. If you’re looking for software that will be low profile while keeping your PC safe then this is it.

A guide to Norton Internet Security

A guide to Norton Internet Security

    About Norton Internet Security

Norton Internet Security is one of the top Norton products giving you protection from viruses, spyware, Trojans, worms, rootkits, botnets, spam and phishing. It also includes a Firewall, parental controls and intelligent scanning to save memory and capacity of your PC.

A brief history of Norton Internet Security

Norton internet security and Anti Virus hold a combined market share of 61 per cent, and they have been keeping computers safe for almost a decade now

The first edition (1.0) released in January 2000, was the first Symantec product that moved beyond strictly anti-virus and content control. It featured banner-ad control and cookie removal, while a Family Edition added parental controls.

Version 2.5 added Intrusion Detection to protect computers against attacks and the firewall could put the computer in stealth mode.  Version 5.0 released in 2002 bundled together all the family control, and next year an anti spam program was added.

    The growth of cybercrime

By 2005 Norton had to fight the growth of spyware, and anti-spyware and keystroke logging technology was introduced, something which could lead to lengthy scan times and the slowing down of some computers.

By 2008 Norton had beaten these problems by introducing Norton Insight which only scanned at risk files, and a reduced memory footprint.  Norton Pulse updates were introduced to keep software up to date with the most recent virus threats.

The latest version, Internet Security 2010, features Project Quorum, which looks at the reputation of the software, decided by thousands of online contributions by Norton subscribers, to decide whether something is malware.

    About Norton 360

Norton 360 is Symantec’s most comprehensive antivirus software and is designed for everyone from individual users to small and medium sized businesses.

    What does Norton 360 do?

It protects against viruses, spam, botnets, rootkits and phishing. In fact it is one of the most robust antivirus products on the market in the world today.

It has special tune-up packages which would maintain a smooth running PC. It will back up your files to both online and to other external storage devices and can even speed up boot time by turning off unnecessary programs.

Norton’s new generation of programs are not only smaller and lighter but far more efficient; after the first scan 360 will then only scan files it deems are at risk. IT is a much more unobtrusive form of antivirus protection than some other brands.

How to Download and Install Norton

How to Download and Install Norton

    First step

Before you do anything make sure that you uninstall your old antivirus software. If you try to install new antivirus software over an existing programme you almost always run into problems.

    How to download Norton software

Decide which software product is best for you. You can do that by reading our reviews and using our Antivirus Selector Tool. Then simply fill out the payment page and submit your payment. Once that has been processed you will be taken to the order confirmation page. Click the button that says “Start Download”.

The download should start straight away and you will be provided with on screen instructions.

    How to install Norton software

After the download is finished it should install automatically. If this doesn’t happen then just double click on the “Install Norton” icon on your desktop. When the file extraction is complete you will be shown the licence agreement, read it through, then click “I agree” to continue.

When the installation is complete you will be asked to create a Norton account. If you don’t already have one click “create a Norton account” and fill in you details. When the process is finished you will see a screen that confirms your email address and account details. Simply click “next” to activate the software.

    How to activate Norton Software

Once you have downloaded and installed your software it will automatically perform a total system scan to make sure that your computer isn’t which will ensure your PC is not contaminated with any kind of malware such as worms, Trojans, viruses or spyware. If the programme encounters any problems simply click on the “fix now” button.

One third of all cybercrime caused by one gang

One third of all cybercrime caused by one gang

Norton Symantec protects pc users from viruses, hackers and malicious software. However, its job would be made a lot easier but for the activities of one single Russian based gang of cybercriminals.

According to a recent report, it is estimated that this gang – currently under investigation by international authorities – is behind more than one third of all acts of cybercrime currently being committed online. Cybercrime cost the UK economy alone around £10 billion in 2010.

Attack Toolkits brings cybercrime to the masses

Norton Symantec has announced that they’ve discovered a thriving online business in new attack toolkits that allow novice cybercriminals, with no technical expertise, to launch cyberattacks and create malicious websites.

The cyberattack toolkits can be bought online, giving the would-be cybercriminal a bunch of pre-written code that they can use to unleash attacks on other people’s personal and networked computers. They are, says Norton, fully customisable and even come with anti-detection software. Even more evidence of the growing threat posed by cybercrime.

SMBs aren’t prepared for disasters, says Symantec

SMBs aren’t prepared for disasters, says Symantec

Symantec Corp. has revealed that half of small and medium businesses do not have a plan in place in the event of a disaster or data loss.

The security vendor said that 40% of SMBs did not see disaster preparation as a priority, even thought IT outages cost the average small business around $3,000 every day.

Bernard Laroche, senior director, SMB product marketing, Symantec, said:

“Disasters happen and SMBs cannot afford to risk losing their information or – more importantly – their customers’ critical information. Simple planning can enable SMBs to protect their information in the event of a disaster, which in turn will help them build trust with their customers.”

Norton Symantec unveils their top five cyber-threats for 2011

Norton Symantec unveils their top five cyber-threats for 2011

Norton Symantec believes that 2011 will see the upward cybercrime trend continue. They also think that it will be driven by the Internet migrating away from the common home computer onto devices such as smartphones, tablets and even the family car.

Norton Symantec is warning consumers that cybercriminals are likely to target smartphones and tablets particularly over the course of the coming year, as these devices are much less likely to be protected by antivirus software.

Consumers should also be more aware that trending topics on social media sites are being increasingly exploited by cybercriminals. They like to take advantage of the shortened URLS, used by sites like Twitter, to direct traffic towards malware infested websites. This is even more effective if the hacker is able to steal your social media identity, as they can then target your friends more effectively.
