McAfee names Cameron Diaz the Most Dangerous Celebrity on the Web

Fri, Aug 20, 2010

Rosie Khdir reveals which Hollywood star has won the title “Most Dangerous Celebrity on the Internet” –  its Knight and Day star Cameron Diaz!

Cameron Diaz

Jessica Biel, the current girlfriend of singer Justin Timberlake, has been knocked off the top spot for the most dangerous celebrity to search for on the web and by his ex no less!

The McAfee Most Dangerous Celebrities™ study has been running for four years and aims to make people aware of the riskiest search names among famous athletes, musicians, politicians, comedians and Hollywood stars on the Web.

This year Cameron Diaz was on top of the list, with searches having a 10 percent chance of landing on a malicious site. Fans searching for “Cameron Diaz” or “Cameron Diaz and downloads,” “Cameron Diaz and screen savers,” “Cameron Diaz and wallpaper,” “Cameron Diaz and photos” and “Cameron Diaz and videos” risk running into online threats designed to steal personal information.

Dave Marcus, security researcher for McAfee Labs, said:

“This year, the search results for celebrities are safer than they’ve been in previous years, but there are still dangers when searching online.”

Other celebrities to watch out for on the list are Julia Roberts, who swiped second place, last year’s Most Dangerous Celebrity Jessica Biel, at third, the world’s highest-paid supermodel Gisele Bündchen at fourth and acting beauty that is Brad Pitt in fifth place.

Marcus added:

“Cybercriminals follow the same hot topics as consumers, and create traps based on the latest trends. Whether you’re surfing the Web from your computer or your phone or clicking on links in Twitter about your favorite celeb, you should surf safely, and make sure you’re using the latest security software.”
