HP TouchSmart 300 desktop

HP TouchSmart 300 desktop

The first thing that strikes you about this machine is the look of it; it is very attractive, not one to be hidden away. It is not an invasive desktop either, measuring in at around 20 inches which means you can put it anywhere, even in the kitchen!

I say this because of it actually comes with some really useful Recipe Box software that lets you find recipes online and organize them for use later. Its touch screen and interface are really easy to use, which means you shouldn’t need to resort back the mouse and keyboard.

This is also an excellent media centre. It has excellent widgets for manipulating photos, enabling media playback and accessing social networking sites, all in a responsive touch friendly environment.

It has a very decent 640Gb hard drive, five USB ports and multicard reader, DVD burner and remote control for extra convenience.

Overall this is a fun machine to have around the house. Especially for a family who intend to use it more as an interactive multimedia platform. It is perfect for all your basic PC needs, with 4Gb RAM and AMD Athlon II X” processors, but would not be ideal if you are looking for a serious gaming PC.

HP Mini 110

HP Mini 110

HP has really put some effort into the new Mini 110’s looks. There are swirl patterns across the lid and it comes in a choice of white, pink or black.

They’ve put in a full VGA connection, allowing you to connect to a display without messing about with an adapter, and there’s even an extra USB port.

The hard drive has also been improved. It now has a 160Gb capacity, giving it faster speeds of 5,400RPM against 4,200RPM. The Intel® Atom CPUs are perfect for netbooks, and with 1Gb RAM it boots quickly and can handle reasonably high demands.

One strange point about the Mini 110 is the fact that the left and right click buttons are on either side of the track-pad rather than underneath. There’s also no HDMI port.

HP has built a great netbook, with good battery life, easy to use keyboard and lots of ports. There are a few practical problems, but they are minor ones.

HP Envy 15

HP Envy 15

The HP Envy 15 is all about design. There are tactile swirls with raised divots laser-etched into the body. It’s a matter of taste but we personally like these. The keyboard is a pleasure to type on and the large trackpad is very comfortable to use.

It really excels, however, when it comes to the hardware specifications. Behind the pretty floral there is an Intel Core™ i7 Processor, up to 16Gb of RAM and up to 500Gb hard drive, all of which gives it some real power.

We were also really impressed by the ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 4830 graphics card, with up to 1Gb dedicated memory. The graphics and the incredible sound of the Beats Audio speakers, pooled with the 15.6-inch widescreen, which at 1366 x 768 is also HD, makes this laptop a great choice for movies, games or music.

At just 5 lbs it’s nice and light, but the optical drive has been taken out to keep the weight down. But as streaming movies, “download only” software and cloud storage become more and more important, we guess that this will be less of a handicap.

The Envy 15 really is a superb package for its price and will give you top notch performance.

Who is HP?

Hewlett-Packard is the official name of HP and it is one of the world’s leading technology companies which specialize in making and developing computers, printers, networking hardware and other related products.

Industry reports show that no other computer manufacturers makes and sells as many personal computers as HP; no wonder it is the sixth largest software company in the world.

When did HP start?

HP is the symbolic founder of Silicon Valley and therefore one of the oldest technology companies in the world.

Its roots go back to the time of the Great Depression when William Hewlett and David Packard founded a company in a garage in Palo Alto, California, near to Stanford University – where they both graduated in 1935.

HP focused mainly on electronic test equipment in the early years and then moved into the computer market in 1966 with the HP 2100 and HP 1000 series of minicomputers. This series survived for an impressive 20 years.

21st Century evolution...

After its merger with Compaq in 2002 Hewlett-Packard became a major competitor in the PC industry. HP has since gone on to develop an enviable reputation for making some of the most sought after laptops and desktops in the market.

It gives a powerful and surprisingly quiet performance and eliminates the idea that all powerful gaming PC’s have to be bulky and unsightly.

A guide to the HP TouchSmart Desktop PC Series

A guide to the HP TouchSmart Desktop PC Series

What is the TouchSmart?

This is HP’s all-in-one touch screen PC which was released in 2007. It became the first mass-marketed touch screen and brought the technology into the consumer sector.

Why developed the TouchSmart?

HP was competing with the iMac, and other high-end computers that are all about the look as well as the performance. The TouchSmart is a serious contender; the design and beautiful 23 inch HD screen will become a centre piece in any room and a multimedia center for all the family.

Why is the Touchsmart so special?

Touch technology has come a long way in that last two years and it’s a viable and practical method of interacting with your PC. After taking some much needed time to get used to it, you will be amazed at how responsive it is.

The specs are quite impressive, you get a 1Tb hard drive, 4Gb RAM, Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor and Nvidia Ge Force 9400 graphics card.

All that said this hardware would be meaningless without the design. The TouchSmart can be mounted on a wall and the wireless keyboard and mouse make for clutter free elegance and style.

Who is TouchSmart for?

Those who have the cash to burn and want a top of the line all-in-one PC that gives you the best graphic performance should go for the TouchSmart desktop.
