Corel Painter 11

Corel Painter 11

Corel Painter is a tool for anyone looking to transform and manipulate images. It’s an essential program for graphic artists, illustrators and anyone else who does a lot of work with images.

The great news is that there are now more selecting and transforming functions, meaning that you don’t have to keep putting the image into Photoshop.

The new program is faster than previous versions, you can now copy multiple layers and the palettes are resizable – all convenient and practical adjustments.

What is really getting people going about the new edition is that there are 40 new brushes including acrylics, blenders, chalks, pencils, pens and pastels.

The best feature about Corel Painter is the RealBristle™ Painting System. If you have a pen and tablet input you can draw just like you would with pen and paper. You can change the width of your brush strokes with the angle of your pen and the more vertical you hold the pen, the thinner the stroke.

You can also affect the depth and effect of color with the speed of your pen movement. In fact there’s nothing that you can do with a real brush that you can’t do in Painter.

A Corel red eye guide

A Corel red eye guide

What is red eye and how does it happen?

The red eye effect in Photographs occurs when light from a camera flash reflects off the back of the eye and through the blood which nourishes the eye, giving the people in your shot a slightly scary look.

How to prevent red eye?

If you are taking a photo, check whether the camera has a red eye reduction function, as this will automatically help. If not, then try not to aim the flash directly at eye level or move further away from your subject.

How do I fix red eye?

Corel has come up with a few ways to help you get rid of that very unattractive demon red eye look.

The Express Lab tool bar in Paint Shop Pro, features a beginner’s introduction to fixing photos with the most common functions. You can crop, resize, alter brightness and remove red eye. Just click on the red eye icon and sit back a watch the marks disappear.

Images can also be touched up by removing blemishes and scratches, smoothing out skin, and even editing out unwanted objects in the photo.Corel Digital Studio has a feature called Express Edit which basically works in the same way as Express Lab.

CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X4 comes with Photo-Paint. With this program you must zoom in as close as you can and can select the areas of the eyes that are red. Choose Image> Adjust > Colour Tone, and then hit de-saturate until the red eye has gone.

A guide to using CorelDRAW

A guide to using CorelDRAW

What is CorelDRAW?

CorelDRAW X4, first produced in 1989, is vector graphics editor.

A vector is an image which is based on geometric shapes, points, lines and curves and the information about the image is stored as a formula. This means that the screen image is only limited by the quality of the display.

Another image type is a bitmap which, like a photo, is represented in pixels and as it is made larger will lose quality because the number of pixels remains constant.

How does CorelDRAW work?

CorelDRAW is a large program, but the standard building steps for creating an image are the same.

Using basic shapes or irregular shapes you build up illustrations with the line tools, in same way that you would build up a drawing by putting pencil to paper.

When you have completed your image you can you can add colour, import bitmap images, paint effects and text...the options are endless!

What else does CorelDRAW do?

The most recent version comes with several other features including PowerTRACE which converts bitmap images into vector graphics. This mean you can take a photo and then transform it into a logo.

Photo-Paint is a bitmap editing software. CorelDRAW is extremely useful software for designers as it means you can work with both formats.
